Reading a Supplement Label Without Amounts: A Memopryl Example

By the Memopryl Team · Last updated · 7 min read

Quick answerFederal rules say a Supplement Facts panel must list the serving size and each ingredient's amount, or a proprietary blend's total weight. Memopryl's panel was not in our files, so all 6 named ingredients lack amounts here. You can still read the front claims and the ingredient names, but read the panel on your bottle before your first capsule.

The basics

What is a Supplement Facts panel?

The Supplement Facts panel is the boxed table on the side or back of a supplement bottle. It is the one part of the label that federal rules shape in detail (21 CFR 101.36). Everything else, from the logo to the front claims, is mostly marketing.

Why it matters more than the front

The front tells you what the brand wants you to notice. The panel tells you what is in each serving and how much. When you compare products, the panel is where the real comparison happens.

The rule behind it

Under 21 CFR 101.36, the panel must list the serving size and each dietary ingredient's amount, or the total weight of a proprietary blend. That rule is what makes dose checks possible.

Full panel

What does a full Supplement Facts panel show?

A complete panel answers the basic questions a buyer or pharmacist will ask. The table compares what a full panel shows with what our files hold for Memopryl.

Panel lines follow 21 CFR 101.36 and common label practice. Your bottle may print lines our files could not show.

Front label

What can the Memopryl front label still tell you?

A label without amounts is not a blank page. The front and the ingredient list still carry useful facts. For Memopryl, the bottle front reads "ADVANCED FORMULA", "MemoPryl", "By NutraVibe" and "60 CAPSULES".

The claims

Three support claims appear, each with an asterisk: Supports Concentration, Supports Brain Energy, Supports Productivity. The asterisk points to the standard note that the FDA has not reviewed them. There are no disease claims.

The named ingredients

The retailer pack and the brand's graphic name six: phosphatidylserine, ginkgo leaf, N-acetyl L-carnitine HCl, St. John's wort, bacopa and L-glutamine. The ingredients page covers the research on each.

The brand's ingredient graphic names all six ingredients. Names help you spot St. John's wort and ginkgo, the two with medicine concerns, even without amounts.

Doses

Why do ingredient amounts matter?

Amounts let you compare a product with the doses researchers used. Without them, you cannot tell whether a serving holds a studied dose or a token sprinkle. That is the main cost of a missing panel.

The research doses for Memopryl's named ingredients are clear. Bacopa was studied at 300 mg a day for 12 weeks (Stough et al., 2001). Phosphatidylserine was studied at 100 to 300 mg a day (Kato-Kataoka et al., 2010). Ginkgo's largest trial used 240 mg a day (DeKosky et al., 2008 (GEM)).

Interactions do not wait for amounts

Safety works differently. St. John's wort weakens many medicines whatever the amount printed (NCCIH, St. John's Wort). Our post on St. John's wort and your medicines explains why a pharmacist check comes first. The ginkgo side is covered in what the big ginkgo trials found.

Blends

How do you read a proprietary blend?

A proprietary blend groups several ingredients under one name and one total weight. The rules allow it, as long as the blend's total weight is shown (21 CFR 101.36). You see the ingredients, usually in order by weight, but not each one's amount.

How to read one

Divide the blend weight by the number of ingredients to see the average share. If a 300 mg blend holds six ingredients, none of them can match a 300 mg study dose on its own.

Where Memopryl stands

We do not know whether Memopryl uses a blend, single amounts or both. That is one more reason to read the panel on your bottle.

Practical steps

What should you do when a seller cannot show you the panel?

If a seller cannot show you the panel before you buy, you still have options. The steps below keep you in control and protect your refund window.

  1. Ask for a photo

Call the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 and ask for a clear photo of the Supplement Facts panel.

  2. Read it on arrival

Before your first capsule, read the panel in good light and photograph it.

  3. Show your pharmacist

Bring the photo or the bottle, with a list of every medicine you take.

  4. Decide inside the window

If the panel does not satisfy you, the 60-day guarantee applies from the purchase date.

No panel, no first capsule

Never start a capsule you cannot read the panel for if you take any prescription. Follow the directions on your bottle, not a guess. Refund steps are on the refund policy page.

Checklist

Which label checks should you run on any focus supplement?

Use this checklist on any supplement label, in the store or at your kitchen table. It takes about five minutes.

A simple label check. If the claims promise to treat a disease, stop there; the FDA has warned companies over illegal Alzheimer's claims.

Honest note

What could we confirm on the Memopryl label?

Here is what our files do and do not confirm about the Memopryl label. We sell Memopryl, and we still will not fill a gap with a guess.

Label panel not published

The Memopryl Supplement Facts panel was not part of the files we received, and the brand's info link opened an error page. That means the serving size, the amount of each ingredient, the capsule material and the other ingredients are all not published here. Read the panel on your bottle before your first capsule, and show it to your doctor or pharmacist because of the St. John's wort.

What we could confirm

  • The front label and its three support claims
  • The six named ingredients
  • 60 capsules per bottle
  • Lot MEM-26/GO-8833 and CoA reference MEM-8833-26-GO, as references

What is not published

  • Serving size and daily directions
  • Every ingredient amount
  • Other ingredients and capsule material
  • A published lab certificate

The Supplement Facts page will be updated if the panel becomes available.

FAQ

Reading a label without amounts FAQ

What must a Supplement Facts panel show?

The serving size and the amount of each dietary ingredient per serving. For a proprietary blend, it must show the blend's total weight.

What is a proprietary blend?

A named mix of ingredients listed under one total weight. You can see what is in it, but not how much of each ingredient.

Why are Memopryl's amounts not published here?

The Supplement Facts panel was not part of the files we received, and the brand's info link opened an error page. We do not guess amounts.

Can I still learn anything from a label without amounts?

Yes. The front claims, the named ingredients and any warnings tell you what to ask about. St. John's wort alone is enough to call for a pharmacist check.

What should I do if the seller cannot show me the panel?

Ask the order desk for a clear photo. If none comes, read the panel as soon as the bottle arrives, before your first capsule, and use the 60-day guarantee if you are not comfortable.

Does a missing panel mean the product is unsafe?

Not by itself. It means you cannot check doses or hidden extras before you buy. That is a gap in information, and it is worth closing before you start.

How many capsules of Memopryl should I take?

Follow the directions on your bottle. The serving size and daily directions are not published in our files.
